because of the combination of high tide and bad weather conditions, so the plan

drop them off at the pier.

Loch Alainn has now limped back to Garvel Dry-Dock for further
engine repairs leaving the Isle of Cumbrae to solder on on the Largs
route for a while longer. Loch Tarbert was also sighted in Largs
around 1530 this afternoon where she tied up at the pier for the night.
Its currently unclear what's manning the Tarbert - Portavadie /

this morning when a freight vessel came close to her route.

Loch Alainn took over her Largs - Cumbrae run this morning.
Unfortunately she sheared a bolt on her new prop so she the Isle of

some achievement for a wee craft!

Terminals:
Port Askaig:
IMPORTANT!
Caledonian MacBrayne confirms that the ferry operation at Port Askaig on
Islay is to close temporarily with immediate effect and that
all services to and from Islay will operate from Port Ellen.
The closure brings forward a planned interruption in the service from
Port Askaig which had been scheduled for mid-February. To enable
essential engineering works at Port Askaig, involving replacement of the
current linkspan and other facilities, the ferry will operate out of
Port Ellen from Thursday (December 20, 2006).
CalMac is also highlighting that to enable customers to maintain
mainland bus connections, the 1300 departure from Kennacraig will be
brought forward by ten minutes to 1250 with immediate effect.
CalMac are working closely with Argyll and Bute Council on this in terms
of keeping people informed about the progress of the works and the
possible impact on the service. The Council is making arrangements for
connecting transport between the two ports for the 1530 sailing and the
details of these arrangements will be widely publicised. From CalMac:
"We assure our customers on the island and the mainland that we will
endeavour to keep any possible disruption to a minimum and that we will
do everything in our power to ensure that the work is completed as
quickly as possible. Customers should obviously keep an eye out for
local notices and updates on our website
www.calmac.co.uk and we will
ensure that gives everyone the best possible information." |

Isle of Mull past the Point of Ayre at 0400 this morning en route to
Oban.
Update 1100:
Isle of Mull is currently nearing the south-eastern tip of Islay.
Clyde:

Update 1920:
Isle of Mull is just departing Bidston and is currently in the Dock
system. She has to pass through various locks before entering the Mersey
where she will have Compass adjustments. When successful she is
departing for Oban ETA 1600 tomorrow afternoon. Delay was caused by a
second engine rebuild and some modifications to a leaking Stern Door. If
she goes up through the Sound of Islay, she should be passing Port
Askaig mid morning, 0900-1200 depending on tide, speed and time of her
departure.
Update 2300:
She left the Mersey bar at 2250. She is now en
route to Oban. |
| |
|
| 18/12/06 |
Terminals:
Oban:
Work continues at the new Linkspan with heavy construction
equipment. It is assumed the new section will mean that the cars will load from
the existing marshalling lanes but the 'other' way around. The existing linkspan
will load from the furthest away from the new terminal building. |

Oban 2nd Linkspan |

|
| 17/12/06 |
Isle of Mull was moved from the dry dock to the wet dock last
week nearing her annual overhaul completion. She is due to leave for
Oban at 1500 tomorrow afternoon. This may change however as her engines
are still being assembled, and sections of her car deck are still being
replaced. As she has not yet been out on trials after such a big engine
job, her departure may be delayed.
She should have a loaded test run on or around the Mersey. It is
believed Paxman Diesels of Stockport may be doing it as they were the
ones who built the Mirlees Engines (Paxman took over Mirlees a while
ago). Loaded Testing is also required to retune the Power Units so that
they are not incorrectly set and cause damage.
It is also noted that the shore crew are greatly missing the 'Mull'!
Isle of Arran is due to leave Tobermory in February sometime,
possibly the 20th updates to follow.
As mentioned on the 12/12/06 Lord of the Isles appears to be
having a bit of a manoeuvrability problems, as yesterday she completely
missed the pier in Craignure on the 1000 from Oban and finally docked at
1050. Her speed on leaving the pier was not too great either, there was
hardly any wind on this occasion.
Loch Striven is now lying at the back at Rothesay pier after
arriving from Kennacraig.
Clyde:
Largs -
Cumbrae:
It appears Isle of Cumbrae might be suffering from technical
difficulties this afternoon.
Updates to follow.
Service is currently operating on a sailing to sailing basis at the
moment due to a technical problem.
However, there will definitely be a 2015 sailing from Largs and a 2030
from Cumbrae.

was caught moving into the railway
berth, she only sat alongside for a maximum of 20 seconds, then left again, now
out in the bay. As yet no reports as to why she was there, its possible she may
be helping with pier work. It
looked as though she was heading for the Sound of Kerrera.
Update:
She is still sitting in the bay waiting off. Updates to Follow. |

Western Isles:
Loch Ranza was again sailing to Kennacraig this morning, due to a
build up of sand and seaweed at Tayinloan slipway. However due to
increasing winds, she only carried out her first sailing and retired to
the south pier on arrival back at Gigha. Hebridean Isles diverted
her 0700 sailing to Port Askaig once again this morning and was noted
running 15 minutes late on her afternoon sailing.
Isle of Cumbrae arrived at Kennacraig seeking shelter while
Loch Ranza was there this morning. Loch Striven arrived at
Port Askaig during the morning, having attempted to proceed onwards to
the Clyde for her overhaul. She got as far as the south eastern end of
the Sound of Islay then had to return to Port Askaig where remained for
a while. She then sailed at 1400 for Kennacraig where she was to tie up
alongside Isle of Cumbrae overnight.
Clyde:
This morning saw Caledonian Isles diverting her 0820 sailing to
Gourock instead of Ardrossan. As a result her 1105 ex Brodick and 1230
ex Ardrossan were cancelled. Upon her delayed arrival back in Brodick,
she finished for the day. |

can be carried but loading and discharging at Kennacraig is only
possible under certain conditions at heights of the tide. Sailings are
timetabled as follows:
