MV Alfred has been sitting in Ayr Harbour for the last few days, and was joined by MV Hebridean Isles yesterday.

"Voting is now open to help us name the two new vessels to serve Islay and Jura. Below is a shortlist of names to choose from, each of which has ties to the landscape and history of Islay and Jura:


Isle of Islay—the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland.


Pioneer—a ferry built in 1974 serving West Loch Tarbert and Port Ellen on Islay. She was the longest vessel to operate this far up the loch.

Talks over date for MV Alfred ferry to join CalMac on charter

I think they would be better basing her in Stornaway, i presume that Isle of Arran will be on the second Arran/Campbeltown roster anyway, so Alfred would be a spare part based on the Clyde, whereas in Stornoway, she could do a couple of freight runs, and allow Loch Seaforth more scope to offer capacity to islanders and tourist traffic. Not sure if she could operate on the triangle though.
