In 1978 a special cruise was laid on aboard Maid of the Loch for invited guests and 800 passengers – each passenger received a piece of birthday cake; each child a stick of rock to mark her 25 years in service.

In 1986 Keppel gave her last Largs to Millport sailing. Lochs Striven and Linnhe had been introduced on the run from Largs to Cumbrae slip and with their increase in passenger accommodation compared to previous vessels on the route, Keppel was no longer required for the direct run to Millport.
