In 1969 the Scottish Transport Group bought the Bute Ferry Co. Ltd – its trade, its basic slipways, and its vessels. Purchased for £35,000 the Caledonian Steam Packet wanted to integrate the service with their other Clyde routes, providing a 'back door' route to Bute in addition to their main Wemyss Bay-Rothesay crossing.
